Actxplorer is a travel-based social enterprise that aims to fight poverty by creating an inclusive and sustainable environment for local communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and social enterprises to benefit from tourism, volunteerism and impact investment.

We provide an Internet marketplace platform where locals’ stories and experiences can be shared with the world. We connect locals to the travelers around the globe who desire to participate in these experiences and adventures. Our mission is to create opportunities for travelers and locals to interact in any authentic experiences, as well as to collaborate in any social-related projects that benefit the locals and local communities. Our goal is to help the locals to access to tourism market and empower them to build better lives by creating opportunity for them to host and share their unique experiences, or get assistance and collaboration to improve their communities, or the finances needed to grow their social enterprises. Our dedicated field team works closely with the locals and local communities to provides supports and training so that the entire interaction and immersion are enriching for travelers as well as the locals.

Steven is a successful businessman with several businesses including a travel company. He currently sits on the board of the Transformational Business Network (TBN) Asia and is heavily involved in various social projects in the ASEAN region. His business acumen continues to help Actxplorer with its operations.

Melvyn Mak spent 18 years of his life as a banker and General Manager of a stockbroking company before responding to the call to do religious work for the next 18 years of his life. For the 3rd period of 18 years of his life, he’s passionate about the synergy between the Marketplace and alleviation of poverty through enterprises. He is Co-Founder of Actxplorer, and Chairman of Transformation Business Network (TBN) Asia. He is married to Linda for 37 years and they have 3 grown up daughters. Melvyn’s years of experience and deep passion for social impact provides Actxplorer with the technical expertise needed for this field of work.

Jeremy is an avid traveller and a firm believer in sustainable tourism. He co-founded Actxplorer because he saw the potential of tourism to change lives for the better. He hopes his small contribution can help to change tourism into a force for good, and be able to create a positive impact on the people he encounters. To date, Jeremy has facilitated multiple learning and volunteering trips to Vietnam and Cambodia for university students in Singapore and Australia.

Danielle majored in Society and the Earth System in her Environmental Earth Systems Science degree. Through her years in junior college and university, she developed an interest in the geography, history and anthropology of the Southeast Asian region. She is a firm believer and supporter of sustainable tourism and community development. To date, she has experienced all ASEAN countries through multiple field trips, community involvement projects and leisure travels.

Mindy is a Geography educator by training. Her love for Southeast Asia developed while in university researching on resource use management amongst the Lahu and Akha people in northern Thailand, and has continued to grow through all the amazing people she’s met on adventures (both work and fun) around Southeast Asia. She hopes and strives to see more practical outworking of knowledge and skills in the field, and believes that everyone can contribute to positive change in our region, if they want to!

Country Director of Ax Vietnam

Thin oversees the entire operations of Vietnam. She holds a degree in Tourism and started her own company at the age of 25. Thin grew up in a rural community and is from the ethnic minority group San Chay. An enterprising young woman, Thin has a deep heart for the community and wants to use tourism to make a change. With her personal attention she aims for every visitor to leave Vietnam with the best possible memories.

Jaap is an Automotive Engineer turned traveler, who fell in love with Vietnam and a Vietnamese lady during his travels around the world. Fast forward a few years, he’s happily married to Thin, country director of Ax Vietnam, and together they have a beautiful little boy. Jaap is a firm believer of the vision of Actxplorer and strives to provide travel that brings positive impact to all parties involved. Moses oversees the operations of Actxplorer Myanmar. He started his own travel company in 2015 when Myanmar started to open its door to the world & there was a growth in the tourism industry. Moses’ passion for travel and exploration around Myanmar started in his childhood. He believes in the goal and mission of Actxplorer, and strives to create not just the best travel experiences for visitors to Myanmar, but also that the trips can contribute to positive change in the communities or the places that Actxplorer works in. Moses is married to Lwai, and together they have a pair of lovely twin daughters!

Marketing Director for Ax Myanmar

Lwai is a developer by training. She loves website development as well as crafting unique tour programmes for visitors to Myanmar. Just like her husband Moses, Lwai also has a passion for tourism and contributing to positive growth in local communities. She supports both online and offline marketing and communication needs of Ax Myanmar, and also helps curate tour itineraries. Lwai believes that her small contribution can help to change Myanmar’s tourism landscape to create sustainable positive impact on local communities. Lwai & Moses met in Singapore years ago and right now, have a pair of lovely twin daughters!
